A very bad Friday has become a very Good Friday because Sunday would bring the miraculous resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ three days later. Beaten for our sins (Isaiah 53:5), Jesus walked the Via Dolorosa—the way of suffering—and endured the shame and humiliation of the cross for the joy set before Him (Heb. 12:2)—all to make a way for us who were once far off to be brought near by the blood of Jesus (Eph. 2:13).
Without a very bloody Good Friday, I would still be spiritually dead in my trespasses (Eph. 2:1), eternally separated from God the Father. “Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin.” (Heb. 9:22) If you have not confessed Christ as Lord, this is your current reality. But you are not without hope. You, too, can choose to follow the crucified Christ.
Our Lord came to earth as fully man and fully God and did indeed shed His blood for us to pay our sin debt and to make possible the free gift of salvation and eternal life to those willing to receive it. The “way of suffering” was the way to give us hope.
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:7
Thank you, Jesus, for Good Friday.
